I know members on both sides of the aisle agree on the importance of medical research--so this is not a partisan issue.
Patty Murray
The Public Record
Patty Lynn Murray is a United States Senator from Washington, serving since 1993. A member of the Democratic Party, she has held various leadership positions in the Senate, including serving as the Senate's first female President pro tempore. Throughout her tenure, Murray has focused on issues such as education, healthcare, and women's rights, advocating for policies that support working families and promote economic growth.
This is not only misguided policy, it flies in the face of the Budget Agreement which is meant to ensure parity between defense and non-defense spending.
Cutting non-defense spending by $54 billion would require devastating cuts to the education, health, and training programs that this subcommittee funds.
I would just say that the prevention fund money that is in the ACA is really critical.
Republicans are, as we speak, rushing to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, which expanded health coverage to 20 million Americans.
The NIH accounts for the largest share of our subcommittee's resource and its work is vital to all those efforts.
I look forward to working with this subcommittee and others to ensure that cuts are not made that would undermine our progress on medical research.
Patients and families across the country are waiting and hoping for better cures and treatments.
before I talk about the Republican's reckless move tonight to roll back important worker protections, I do want to address the President's revised immigration Executive order that he signed just hours ago. He may have rearranged some…
I ask unanimous consent to speak for 7 minutes. The PRESIDING OFFICER. Without objection, it is so ordered. Travel Ban
I ask for the yeas and nays. The PRESIDING OFFICER. Is there a sufficient second? There appears to be a sufficient second. The yeas and nays were ordered. The joint resolution was ordered to a third reading and was read the third time. The…
I thank my colleague from Washington State, who has made a really important case. I want to be here today to add my opinion, as well, because over the past 2 months we have heard a lot about President Trump's plan to drain the swamp, which…
thank you, and thank you to some of my colleagues who are going to be joining me on the floor this afternoon. The day after President Trump was inaugurated was one of the most inspiring I have ever gotten a chance to be part of. Millions…
Additionally, I yield the remainder of my time beyond that, of my postcloture debate time, to Senator Schumer. The PRESIDING OFFICER. The Senator has that right.
I come to the floor today to urge my colleagues to vote no on the nomination of Scott Pruitt to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, a nomination that marks yet another broken promise from the new President to put the needs of…
Thank you very much. I yield the floor. The PRESIDING OFFICER. The Senator from Rhode Island.
before I begin to speak about the nomination before us right now, I did want to comment on the breaking news regarding the nomination of Andrew Puzder. There is some good news today for workers and women and families in America. Back on…
the ACA has helped 62 million Americans gain access to behavioral healthcare services by, first of all, expanding Medicaid.
I hope that won't happen. I ask my Republican colleagues to drop this harmful repeal effort once and for all, and start working with us to build on the progress made to help families and communities get the mental healthcare they need.
How damaging would it be to your patients that you treat if there was the efforts here to repeal the ACA occurred?
I know that Washington State's expanded Medicaid program has really strengthened our State's safety net by covering the lowest income individuals.
We also know that because of the ACA, hospitals have seen their uncompensated care burden drop by $10 billion.
the investments in the Labor H bill will mean very little if Republicans continue with their efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
before I begin, I wish to note my disappointment about how rushed the consideration of this nominee has been. Calls for a thorough investigation into Congressman Price's ethically questionable and potentially illegal health trades have…
