What kind of research is NIDDK conducting to learn how to increase participation in the program?

So it is a question we need to answer with more research.

We have a crisis on our hands, as the number of Americans with that disease continues to grow.

At the same time, the life sciences are helping to drive economic growth and job creation.

Those are just a few examples of the incredible work done to improve health and well-being for families across the country and really around the globe.

Only 15 percent of individuals that have addiction receive it.

I really worry that cutting funding for treatment and recovery... would make it very hard for addicts to get the help they need.

I cannot emphasize enough how much we are worried about this.

A yearlong CR, unless an anomaly were possible for NIH, would be simply devastating.

The work of the National Institutes of Health is vitally important to that effort.

All of us here today agree there is a lot more we need to do to keep our families and our communities healthy, and continue investing in priorities that strengthen our economy from the middle out.

What the important point about this ruling is that we do have some corporations who are completely disconnected from the workers that they control.

Our economy and our workplaces and our country should work for all of our families, not just the wealthiest few.

I believe it's time for Congress to act as soon as possible to stop a destructive policy that damages the middle class growth.

This has been a really important series of hearings.

First of all, let me thank Senator Collins and Senator Warren for taking the time to lead this important conversation and for all of your work in our effort on this.

Poverty and financial need can have a profound impact on students' ability to succeed.

I believe Pell grants should be eligible year-round, so that students who are working and going to school part-time can stay on a continuous forward trajectory and gain greater momentum toward completion of their degrees.

By creating program offerings that are scheduled as blocks which might be, Monday through Friday in the mornings, afternoons or evenings, will allow students to reliably schedule school, work and family obligations.

At the end of the day, we want to make sure that all young people today and adults from all walks of life have access.

I don't think we appreciate enough how much institutional know-how it takes to navigate a modern postsecondary institution.

I want to make sure that we don't disenfranchise those students who are struggling the most by setting a bar that makes it impossible for them to meet.

Creating pathways for student success is what we'll be focused on today, and it's clear there is lots of room for improvement.

I will be especially focused on making sure students have access to a safe learning environment.

Let's remember that in the years ahead, more and more jobs will actually require education beyond high school.
