I am very alarmed at the misinformation I have heard last evening and today coming out on the issue of child care. I want to set something straight. In the Republican bill, the bill that we are debating and voting on today, in fact, we have been told by the people who make these estimates that we need, in child care, $16 billion to perform the duties that are outlined in the bill. We have, in fact, in the Republican bill provided $23 billion. Madam Chairman, I just want to say in my book of mathematics, that leaves $7 billion aside that can be helped to ease working mothers off AFDC into the working world. In addition, Madam Chairman, that is $4.5 billion more than is in the current child care portion of the welfare bill. It is also very important, as it is also $2 billion more than the President has in his own legislation.
