“I rise to thank the Committee on House Oversight because I think that the committee has shown great courage in considering this challenge to an election. For decades, we never took a second look at challenges and there was a deal made between both sides of the House of Representatives, and nothing was ever done. I think there were among those four decades of challenges probably some very good and useful basis. However, why I am particularly thankful to Chairman Thomas and the committee for looking at this challenge is that it has brought to public view some very serious problems that exist for people who run elections and for citizens who should have the right to elect their own representatives themselves. Specifically, I am talking about the whole area of motor voter and the whole area of the requirement that one must be a citizen before he or she votes.”
