“We have been trying to understand in this discussion not just the outrageous nature of the recent Republican tax plan in which half of the benefits go to people earning $100,000, 25 percent of the benefits go to those people earning $200,000 a year or more, where the largest, the wealthiest 1 percent of earners get more benefits than the bottom 60 percent. All of that is important, but it takes place within the context and I think helps us understand why so many people out there shrug their shoulders and say why should I vote, why should I participate. It does not really matter, the game is rigged, the people who have the money call the shots. Nobody cares about me. I am just a plain working person. ... People have to come back to the ballot box. They do not have to be a Democrat or a Republican. They can be an Independent, I mean nonaffiliated. They can form a third party. It does not matter.”
