“I can remember on the floor of this House, in my first term 3 years ago, sometime around 2 o'clock in the morning, some $2 billion that some of us had managed to put in the budget in order to feed hungry children and take care of the needs of the millions of kids in this country who are doing without. I guess that when we talk about money for hungry children, when we talk about Federal aid to education, affordable housing, we cannot afford it. But when it comes to bailing out corporate America, when it comes to shoring up the peso, not only can we afford it, there is no debate, no discussion, not one word on the floor of the House.”
