Within 30 minutes after the first attack on New York City, the commanding officer of the Enterprise made a 180-degree turn, headed back towards the Middle East, and waited for orders from the National Command Authority here in Washington. The captain and his crew and accompanying ships were eager and ready to defend America against attack.”
