I don't think any of us want somebody to be hurt by a medical device, and to not be compensated if it's truly the fault of the company.

I want to thank Senator Harkin for chairing this hearing in the absence of our esteemed chairman of the committee.

Now, America leads the world in the development of innovative and life-sustaining medical devices.

I hope I'm wrong on this count because, quite frankly, I don't believe this legislation will contribute at all to our efforts to make health care more affordable.

We appreciate the leadership you provide, and miss our friend, Senator Kennedy.

I think we all want to see something done to reduce the healthcare costs in this country.

I know that Senator Leahy and I and others on this Committee work very strongly together to try and help bring about the effective changes.

I am very proud of you for accepting this position.

I plan on supporting you. I plan on supporting you with respect.

I am counting on you really helping us do a better job up here on Capitol Hill for the people.

This is one of the toughest jobs in all of the Federal Government and I think you are not only up to the job, I think you can do a great job there.

Let us get into a room with law enforcement, including people like Fred Burmester, Salt Lake County's Assistant District Attorney.

We simply must ensure that our Nation's businesses, homes, and infrastructure are no longer viewed as a treasure trove by desperate metal thieves.

Unfortunately, over the past couple of years, metal has become a favorite target for crooks.

I have total confidence in Senator Klobuchar. She has added a great deal to the Judiciary Committee and I think a great deal to the U.S. Senate.

Senator Hatch, Senator Klobuchar, I ask you to work with me and my colleagues.

So I look forward to our hearing today, and I look forward to listening to our witness panel on ways we can protect our country and, of course, perfect our legislation.

I applaud your leadership and tenacity on this important issue, because it is important.

Nothing less than our liberty is at stake. Must judges set aside or may judges consider their personal feelings in deciding cases? Is judicial impartiality a duty or an option?

I believe there are real antitrust issues here that are not going to be solved unless the folks at BCS start to work to resolve these matters.

I have to say I am having a lot of troubles with the BCS approach because... there is kind of an arrogance there that I see that just should not be there.

We are sick of it, to be honest with you.

Well, you know it is unfair.

As a result, the team that finished at the bottom of the PAC 10, which did not win a single game last year, was guaranteed before the season even started to receive more BCS revenues than the University of Utah.
