I want to assure our colleagues and the American people that we are going to find out exactly what happened here.

But you knew this was going on, and you had represented that it was not going on.

I think it is beyond hypocritical not to call for a ban on 501(c)(5) labor groups' political activity as well.

There are plenty of 501(c)(4)s across the political spectrum, and some of the 501(c)(4)s that were really sponsored by Democrats are extremely wealthy too.

I wrote a letter on March 14, 2012. It was signed by a number of my colleagues... You never got back to us.

If you are going to do something in this area--and I agree, it is Congress's obligation to do it--we ought to do it the right way.

Now, Mr. Miller, to your knowledge, what was the first date that anyone at the Treasury Department learned about any Tea Party groups that applied for tax-exempt status being subjected to extra scrutiny?

This targeting began before the so-called spike in 501(c)(4)s.

The American people deserve to know the truth about what went on here, and they deserve to know why the truth was kept from them for so long.

You said, 'There was absolutely no targeting.' To this day you have not corrected your testimony.

It is critical that the public have confidence that Federal tax compliance efforts are pursued in a fair, evenhanded, and transparent manner without regard to politics of any kind.

You lied by omission.

Recently we have learned that the IRS was in fact aware that the IRS had targeted Tea Party and other conservative organizations.

I hope that we can do so with the full and complete cooperation of the Obama administration.

We need to look closely at all these allegations as well.

These hearings are not some sideshow designed to distract from the President's agenda.

The IRS targeting of citizens for their political views is in fact a scandal.

But we sent you letters inquiring about this... you should have corrected the record.

The only way to fully address these issues and to restore the credibility of the IRS is to have a full accounting of the facts.

What else can you call it?
