“I know we have gone over some matters that have transpired in the State of Texas that should shock the conscience of any American citizen. What are we talking about, because I know we have alluded to it, and maybe it may have been read into the Record earlier, but I would like to revisit it and use the very quotes from Mr. Craddick and the gentleman from Texas (Mr. DeLay) as they appear in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. This is from the newspaper article. ``At the Capitol in Washington, United States House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said that the speaker of the Texas House in Austin, Tom Craddick, had asked for the FBI or U.S. marshals to intervene. `The Speaker asked the FBI and/or U.S. marshals to go up and get these Members,' DeLay told the reporters. ``But Craddick, who a day earlier had suggested the possibility of Federal involvement, said Tuesday that he made no calls to any Federal agencies, saying that it was an issue for the Department of Public Safety in Texas. He said, `I'm not into that.' ``However, a spokesman for the United States Attorney's Office,'' in my hometown of San Antonio, ``had no official comment, but a source confirmed that an unidentified person had called to inquire about federalizing the arrest warrant. ``The point seems moot now,'' a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Justice said, ``because it definitely is not for the Federal authorities.…”
