Ted Cruz is a United States Senator from Texas, serving since January 3, 2013. A member of the Republican Party, Cruz gained national prominence during his 2016 campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. He is known for his conservative positions on issues such as healthcare, immigration, and tax reform. Cruz has been a vocal advocate for limited government and has often positioned himself as a defender of constitutional rights.
This effort must be seen in the context of their larger goal to amend the First Amendment to permit even more regulation of political speech.
A simpler, more reasoned approach would be for us to adopt the Virginia plan: remove the limits, allow candidates to accept and report all contributions, and let the citizens decide what is proper or not.
New regulations will not make our system better. Getting rid of the regulations we have will.
Instead of suppressing free speech, let us look to State models for guidance.
This amendment would fundamentally abridge the free speech protections of the First Amendment.

It is not our intention to ban movies or ban books or ban the NAACP from speaking.
