If there is any sector of our economy where competition is so fierce, and where the pace of innovation is so rapid that government interference would only get in the way, it is the Internet and telecommunications market.
If the FCC takes control of the Internet, we will have the inevitable result of all poorly designed regulations, business decisions prejudiced by politicians and political decisions prejudiced by corporations.
I do not support monopolistic, anti-competitive or predatory practices in the Internet marketplace or anywhere for that matter.
The Internet has grown and flourished in ways we never could have imagined from back in the days when Al Gore invented the Internet.
But, you would characterize the risks of Americans coming back from ISIS with U.S. passports as significant? Is that fair?
Do you believe, if they were able to consolidate that power, that there would be a risk of their attempting, and perhaps even succeeding, with a terrorist attack of the magnitude of that that occurred on September 11, 2001, or potentially…
If a force like ISIL, in my opinion, is allowed to continue with its ideology, with its resources, with its capability, then, as General Dempsey said, there's no doubt, it will impact this country and the world economy.
In my view, carrying out such an operation, not responding to immediate exigency, requires congressional authorization.
