It is always important to have an opportunity to speak to our colleagues and as well the American people. Tonight, I will dwell on questions of human rights, challenges to those human rights and the legacy of the undermining of human rights even in America that will include aspects of such indignities around the world. Mr. Speaker, I yield to the gentleman from Maryland (Mr. Sarbanes) who will start with a discussion on a longstanding and well-known historic violations of human rights.
