COMPTROLLER GENERAL REPORT ON NEW AUTHORITY OF PROBATION OFFICERS. Not later than 2 years after the effective date of this act, the Comptroller General of the United States shall complete a study, and report to the Committee on the Judiciary of the House of Representatives and the Committee on the Judiciary of the Senate on the results thereof, on the arrest authority provided to probation officers under subsection (b) of section 3606 of title 18, United States Code, as added by section 2 of this Act. Such study shall include information about-- (1) any instance of an abuse of power in the exercise of such arrest authority; (2) any complaints filed about the exercise of such arrest authority; and (3) any harm resulting from the exercise of such arrest authority, including any civil action alleging the violation of a civil right in the exercise of such arrest authority. SEC. 4. SUNSET OF ARREST AUTHORITY. (a) In General.--Subject to subsection (b) of this section, section 3606 of title 18, United States Code, is amended by striking subsection (b). (b) Effective Date.--Subsection (a) of this section shall take effect on the date that is 30 months after the effective date of this Act. The SPEAKER pro tempore.
