Let me thank the gentlewoman from New York. I can't thank her enough as I watched her, every day, work without ending, thank her so very much. And to Chairman Frelinghuysen, let me thank him as well for his service. But I am very grateful to Democrats who crafted the very funding structure that we are dealing with. And even though it was hidden with Republicans, this gigantic box that is almost broken, I think it is important to note that a lot of good work has taken place, and I want to just cite the good work. I am delighted that we are helping our veterans, and Democrats added an additional amount of money, some $2 billion, to address the VA hospitals. Democrats were concerned about student loans, and the bill increases it by $350 million. Childcare has been increased. Houston metro will be delighted with the New Starts money that is in it; and, yes, my mayor will be excited, and other mayors, about an accurate Census count. For those of us with Hurricane Harvey, the National Flood Insurance Program extension is important. Yet I am disappointed. The work we did on STOP School Violence did not include the civil rights protections for those who need it, and it did not include DACA, with all of these young people who are in need. And, finally, we could not get the special counsel language, my bill, H.R. 3648, that would stop the President from firing the special counsel and stop him from firing the Attorney General and the Deputy Attorney General.…
