In recent weeks, we have mourned the loss of life resulting from an ever-increasing number of mass shootings that have shocked the conscience of our nation. We have a duty to do all we can to prevent gun violence and end the bloodshed. Expanding the availability of extreme risk protection orders is one step we must take because access to firearms can be the difference between life or death--for one person or many. These laws have proven to be effective, particularly in reducing suicides, which involve firearms more than 50 percent of the time. We know that suicides are often times an impulsive action.…”
