Mr. Speaker, the children of Haiti need help. Children around the world need our help. But today in Haiti, thousands upon thousands of children are living in temporary tent conditions, in camps, many that have been ravaged by the waters and the heat and deteriorating conditions. Today in Haiti, the people of that country, particularly the children, are suffering from the epidemic of cholera. We did not take up the Help HAITI bill today, but I am asking that we begin a full press to provide better work conditions and living conditions, as well as a better quality of life for the children of Haiti. Cholera is an epidemic that can spread and kill thousands upon thousands of children. It is important for USAID and the donor countries that have indicated their willingness to donate to Haiti to get the donations in, and it is important now for the Government of Haiti to stand up and be heard on behalf of these children. I look forward to working with the Help HAITI bill to ensure that more children can be adopted. But the epidemic of cholera is spreading to these children, and we must help them now. ____________________
