“Today, I sat in the Senate Judiciary Committee as a historic vote was taken. Since the appointment of Sandra Day O'Connor, only four women have ascended to the United States Supreme Court. I hope, as this goes to the floor, we will stand as Americans, and Democrats and Republicans will ascend to the United States Supreme Court this African-American woman, more qualified than ever, again, to take a rightful place on the United States Supreme Court.
