On the recordSeptember 11, 2001
I join all Americans today in mourning the loss of so many innocent American citizens and condemning those who planned and carried out these horrific acts of terrorism on September 11, 2001, a day that will be forever emblazoned in the hearts of all Americans. This is the fourth generation type of warfare that we have long feared, and we will employ every available resource to eradicate such tactics from the face of the earth. We will not rest until we ferret out those who perpetrated this infamous act and those who aided or abetted this action. Our nation is united in our deep sympathy and compassion for the victims, families and friends of those who perished and were injured. We are united in our gratitude for the heroism of rescue workers and volunteers. And we are united in our indignation and our determination to find and to punish those responsible for these barbaric acts of terrorism. Our prayers go out to the victims, their families, and for our country at this time of national tragedy. We have been shaken by these savage and cowardly attacks--but our resolve and our character will never be daunted. Americans always rise to the challenge of a crisis, and we will once again show the world what it means to be an American. May God's grace be with the victims, their families, and with America.
