Surely in a Nation as great as these United States, we ought to be able to achieve the objectives that the gentlewoman has so eloquently described to protect the retirement security and the health care security of those who have served our country and been our strong citizens and to provide opportunity to our younger citizens so that they might have an even better tomorrow. That is what is being dashed in this budget debate in order to give more tax breaks and loopholes to those at the top of the economic ladder; it is to sacrifice the great American middle class, and those struggling to get into it, that these budget priorities are providing.
