This legislation supports the preservation of our cultural heritage.

We're increasing compensation for attorneys representing indigent defendants.

Today the Senate confirmed General David D. McKiernan as commander of U.S. Forces, Afghanistan.

I am pleased that the Senate confirmed Jim Jeffrey to be the United States Ambassador to Turkey.

We're authorizing the use of fees for noise mitigation projects.

Jim is a man of intellect, integrity, and commitment.

I hereby proclaim October 2008 as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

They are our finest citizens, and we owe them a debt that can never be repaid.

Our Nation is grateful for your dedication to our men and women in uniform.

Jonathan R. Scharfen, of Virginia, to be Director of United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, Department of Homeland Security, vice Emilio T. Gonzalez.

And the general's job is to work with obviously not only our troops, but the thousands of troops from NATO countries there to provide the security so the progress continues.

The bill the Senate passed is essential to the financial security of every American.

That's incredible progress.

I applaud the Senate for its strong bipartisan vote in favor of the financial rescue plan.

The American people expect, and our economy demands, that the House pass this good bill this week and send it to my desk.

I congratulate the Senate on passing the United States-India Nuclear Cooperation Approval and Nonproliferation Enhancement Act, H.R. 7081.
