On this Veterans Day, we give thanks for the 24 million Americans who strengthen our Nation with their example of service and sacrifice.

The message of this week's elections is clear: The American people want their leaders in Washington to set aside partisan differences, conduct ourselves in an ethical manner, and work together to address the challenges facing our Nation.

Our veterans have borne the costs of America's wars.

I encourage you to work with your local veterans group to help support our troops in the field and their families here at home.

We must put these elections behind us and work together on the great issues facing America.

I have a message for these enemies: Do not confuse the workings of American democracy with a lack of American will.

I look forward to listening to ideas from the new leaders of Congress on the best way to support our troops on the frontlines and win the war on terror.

The American people are grateful to the veterans and all who have fought for our freedom.

We are a nation that will keep its commitments to those who have risked their lives for our freedom.

America will never forget their sacrifice.

And that flag that was raised on Mount Suribachi would become an enduring symbol of American resolve and a lasting icon of a democracy at war.

The Japanese who defended that island had learned from costly battles that they could not defeat American forces.

Today We Celebrate The 231st Birthday Of One Of The World's Premier Fighting Forces, And We Mark The Opening Of Our Nation's Most Modern Military Museum.

These walls remind all who visit here that honor, courage, and commitment are not just words.
