We hope that the Iranians will move forward in compliance with their obligations in the United Nations Security Council resolutions.
George W. Bush
The Public Record
George W. Bush is the 43rd President of the United States, serving from January 20, 2001, to January 20, 2009. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as the Governor of Texas from January 17, 1995, until December 21, 2000. His presidency was marked by significant events, including the September 11 attacks in 2001 and the subsequent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Bush's domestic policies included tax cuts, education reform, and Medicare prescription drug benefits.
The most important thing is to get funding to our troops, and get it to them soon.
A premature American departure from Iraq would almost certainly produce greater sectarian violence and further deterioration of conditions in Iraq and possibly other countries.
This country changed on September the 11th, 2001, and my attitude about the world changed that day too.
I'm proud to be the Commander in Chief of such decent people, such honorable people, and such noble people.
If Congress fails to pass a bill I can sign by mid-May, the problems grow even more acute.
That is unacceptable to me, and I believe it is unacceptable to the American people.
The Army also would be forced to consider curtailing some training for Guard and reserve units here at home.
I made it clear for weeks that if either the House or Senate version of this bill comes to my desk, I will veto it.
The bottom line is this: Congress's failure to fund our troops on the frontlines will mean that some of our military families could wait longer for their loved ones to return from the frontlines.
If Congress fails to act in the next few weeks, it will have significant consequences for our men and women in the Armed Forces.
Congress's most basic responsibility is to give our troops the equipment and training they need to fight our enemies and protect our Nation.
I'm very aware that there are a group of people that don't think we should be there in the first place.
Members of Congress say they support the troops. Now they need to show that support in deed as well as in word.
Setting an artificial timetable for withdrawal is a significant mistake.
