Congratulations on the completion of a bilateral framework agreement on trade and investment between our two countries.

At a time when our international position in certain key industries is being challenged, we face impending shortfalls of qualified scientists and engineers.

Everyone will bear a small burden.

We must also make American students the first in the world in science and math by the year 2000.

You are the pioneers in what will be a continuing effort to honor the achievement of this nation's many outstanding schoolteachers.

I am looking forward to my visit to Chile during my South America trip later this fall.

We can do something.

We know that when the challenge is great, great things happen in America.

We welcome the opportunity to strengthen this aspect of our economic cooperation with Chile.

Now is the time for you, the American people, to have a real impact.

Parents really are especially important.

Most kids who go on to become scientists or engineers first became interested in those subjects in elementary school or junior high.

I'm not, and I know you're not, a fan of tax increases.

This budget agreement is our last, best chance to get the Federal budget deficit under control.

The time has come to get America's fiscal house in order.

But a sound working relationship with China is still necessary so that issues of vital concern to us can be addressed.

It will not raise income tax rates, personal or corporate.

The real rewards are the students who will remember you and what you have done for them for the rest of their lives.

These negotiators have done an extraordinarily good job.

The cancer is the budget deficit.

No family, no nation can continue to do business the way the Federal Government has been operating and survive.

We look forward to the completion of Chilean legislative action which will insure that justice is done.
