George H.W. Bush was the 41st President of the United States, serving from January 20, 1989, to January 20, 1993. A member of the Republican Party, he previously held the office of Vice President under Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1989. Bush was a World War II veteran and served in various roles within the U.S. government, including as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 1976 to 1977. His presidency is noted for significant events such as the Gulf War and the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as his efforts in foreign policy and international diplomacy.
I am charged with defending this republic. I am going to use whatever power I can.
You may not agree with some of the tough decisions I have made. But I hope you can agree that I was willing to make the tough decisions.
This nation must continue to speak out for justice and truth. We must always be willing to act in their defense and to advance the cause of peace.
I made decisions. They may have been wrong. I hope that you'll understand that I made them with the best intentions.
Afghanistan has gone from a nation where the Taliban harbored al Qaeda and stoned women in the streets to a young democracy that is fighting terror and encouraging girls to go to school.
Our nation is equipped with new tools to monitor the terrorists' movements, freeze their finances, and break up their plots.
And in terms of the decisions that I have made to protect the homeland, I wouldn't worry about popularity. What I would worry about is the Constitution of the United States and putting plans in place that makes it easier to find out what…
And, clearly, putting a 'Mission Accomplished' on an aircraft carrier was a mistake. It sent the wrong message.
People said the federal response was slow. Don't tell me the federal response was slow when there was 30,000 people pulled off roofs right after the storm passed.
