George H.W. Bush was the 41st President of the United States, serving from January 20, 1989, to January 20, 1993. A member of the Republican Party, he previously held the office of Vice President under Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1989. Bush was a World War II veteran and served in various roles within the U.S. government, including as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 1976 to 1977. His presidency is noted for significant events such as the Gulf War and the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as his efforts in foreign policy and international diplomacy.
I am pleased to announce my intention to nominate James O. Mason to be an Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services.
The United States will not tolerate any assault on these rights of American citizens.
I have determined that the following major producing and/or major transit countries do not meet the standards set forth in Section 481(h)(2)(A): Afghanistan, Burma, Iran, Laos, Panama and Syria.

The world looks to America for leadership not just because we're militarily strong, not just because we have the world's largest economy, but because the ideas we have championed are now dominant.
For too long, the U.N. has focused on small countries which lack extensive support within the organization.
I wish to express my support for the U.N. Human Rights Commission's report on human rights in Cuba.
The report which was released in Geneva is based on firsthand testimony about persistent violations of human rights in that country.
