George H.W. Bush was the 41st President of the United States, serving from January 20, 1989, to January 20, 1993. A member of the Republican Party, he previously held the office of Vice President under Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1989. Bush was a World War II veteran and served in various roles within the U.S. government, including as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 1976 to 1977. His presidency is noted for significant events such as the Gulf War and the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as his efforts in foreign policy and international diplomacy.
Our argument has been, as has many other countries', with Mr. Noriega, who aborted the democratic will of the people of Panama.
This relationship which has been and continues to be bound by so many ties.
I think that given the anxiety and the state of the rumor mill, why, it's appropriate.
These two agreements...show what can and must be done to make relations between our two great nations even closer than they are today.
I express my desire to conclude agreements on conventional forces in Europe and on chemical weapons as soon as possible.
I intend to appoint J. Brian Gaffney to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Federal National Mortgage Association.
Our relations now are strong, and they must grow even stronger -- and they will.
I am delighted to be with you as we witness the signing of these two historic agreements.
