I am proud of the work that--the great work that we have already accomplished this year by improving the Transition Assistance Program.

I am Congressman Bill Flores and not only is it my pleasure to serve as the congressman for the great city of Waco and the rest of the 17th district of Texas, but to also serve as the Chairman of this Subcommittee.

This is shown not only in the priority that our small and large businesses place on hiring veterans.

If we can do this for our athletes at nearly every school, we should be able to do it for our veterans.

What types of characteristics do veterans have that make them such great employees?

We must do what we can to ensure that they are given the best tools available.

The Park Service has said that they have been told to make it as tough on Americans as possible during this shutdown period.

I want to start by giving a shout out to the Waco Regional Office. I visited with them several times over the last 2 years, and they were making remarkable progress on taking care of their disability backlog.

You have not heard one comment on this side of the aisle about shutting down the government.

I would remind Ms. Castor that the sequester was the President's idea.

For all this furor about wanting to raise tax revenues, that they could damage the economy in doing that.

Those are irresponsible and reckless comments.

I can call that a success and congratulate VA for the yeoman's efforts to fill those positions.
