I have followed this story and the tragic fires in my colleague's district in northern New Mexico that has disrupted the lives of thousands of citizens of New Mexico, and we have shared the anguish of their families who have lost their homes and cherished possessions. There is, of course, no price we can place on much of what has been lost, but our hearts go out, and not only those of us who are Texas neighbors but also from the entire country, to the New Mexican people for this tragedy. What we can do, though, is to support the relief and recovery of the people who are now faced with putting their lives back together, because that is the right thing to do.
