I support this bill to cut interest rates in half for our students. As the first member of my family to graduate from college, I know firsthand that affordable access to higher education is the key to the American dream for working families. The cost of attending college continues to skyrocket and puts it out of reach for many working families and students. In our State of North Carolina, we have a unique situation where our State nonprofits provide significant benefits to students. I am concerned that this legislation could have the unintended consequences of reducing the benefits that our students will receive through our nonprofit lenders.
