I ran for this Congress because I was appalled when I was a superintendent at the sorry education legislation that I saw coming through, cuts in doing away with child nutrition programs, cuts in every education program that made a difference for poor children in this country. And my colleagues can argue about all the issues they want to argue about, but I am here to tell them if a child does not have a decent classroom to go to, they understand that education is not important. And they really do not care whether the money comes from the Federal Government, whether it comes from the State government, if it comes from the local government or from private sources; they just know that someone does not care. And there is a big slip between the cup and the lip.
