“to say that the senior Senator from Illinois, Senator Simon, has influenced us all is an understatement. Our dress today is a recognition of his influence on all of us and our great admiration for him personally. I would like to announce that following the vote many of us will participate in a tribute to Senator Simon. I invite all of our colleagues to join Senator Moseley-Braun, Senator Mack, and many of us in that tribute. We will not do it now. We will do it later. In the meantime, we will all enjoy wearing these great bow ties.”
