“passage of the Small Business Regulatory Fairness Act will mark an important milestone in our efforts to provide American business with reasonable, common sense regulatory relief. It is a bill that should be passed by Congress and sent to the President with dispatch. This legislation, which was approved unanimously by the Senate Small Business Committee, and which I expect will pass the Senate with overwhelming bipartisan support, will provide much needed change in the way Federal agencies deal with American small business. It acknowledges that the Federal bureaucracy often chokes small business in red tape, and institutes a number of reforms that will unleash their productive energy without diminishing the Federal responsibility to protect the public health and safety. Passage of this bill will send an important message to small business owners across the country that their voice is being heard in Washington, DC. Small businesses already face a daunting array of challenges, from the uncertain economic climate to the myriad daily paperwork burdens of accounting, bookkeeping, and bill paying. The further burden of keeping up with, and complying with, Federal regulations can discourage even the most stalwart business men and women from striving to achieve their dream of entrepreneurship. The Federal Government has a responsibility to protect worker health and safety, public health, and the environment.”
