Canyon is America's only hardened nuclear chemical separations plant still operating, and its dedicated staff play a vital role in our Nation's history and in the future. During the cold war, H. Canyon was vital for victory, promoting national defense by peace through strength. Today it continues to process nuclear materials safely and securely and delivers fuels to the Tennessee Valley Authority. H. Canyon is also a pioneer for the future, developing plutonium- powered batteries for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for deep space exploration. We saw the results of this incredible technology this summer with the historic, close-range photographs of the most remote planet, Pluto. I am grateful to the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions and the 800 employees for operating this remarkable facility.
