AmeriCorps has given a quarter million Americans the opportunity to serve millions of their fellow citizens in countless ways, fighting poverty, tutoring and mentoring neglected youngsters, cleaning up the environment, and providing long-term care to the elderly, to name a few. It is the premier national service program of the United States. Critical vital services in our communities would not be the same without the efforts of the dedicated young volunteers whose energy, compassion, and commitment touch people's lives every single day.
