On the recordJune 13, 2000
once again I find myself up here in support, and I would say to my colleague, the ranking minority member on the committee, in the regards to Archie the Cockroach, which I have right here, in this bipartisan support against this amendment, children do watch too much television. They are going to watch television. If we look at the violence and the things that are out there, I want my children watching something that is going to improve their literacy, that is going to improve their knowledge on education, especially for those who are going to enter kindergarten. This has been proven the case. If we were talking about some of the other programs, yes, I would support this, but in this particular case I reluctantly oppose the gentleman's amendment. In the spirit of Archie the Cockroach, I support the gentleman's position.
