“I met with Alan Bersin. I think he is trying to do a magnificent job but his number one problem is special education and he is trying to sort it out. There is a lady named Carolyn Nunes, the director of all special education in San Diego County. She happens to be my sister-in-law, but she said that teachers daily are being brutalized by trial lawyers. They are teachers. They do not go to court. They do not handle that. Especially when the Department of Education refuses to put out the guidelines, they do not know how to operate, what to do and they are getting brutalized every day, and we are losing those good teachers, those special education teachers, out of the system. So it is not just funding. It is the trial lawyers. It is the unions, and we need the attack dogs called off so we can get support for our teachers in a normal setting for the special education teachers and the families. The trial lawyers are setting up these cottage organizations and preying on the schools.”
