in February of this year there were approximately 112,311 Medicare part D seniors in my district. About 46,052, or 42 percent, were enrolled in a Medicare drug plan. In March I held Medicare workshops throughout my district to educate our seniors about the Medicare part D coverage. The participation was overwhelming. As a result of these workshops, as of May 7, 2006, approximately 83,437, or 74 percent, of my eligible seniors were enrolled in the part D plan. Currently, more than 38 million Medicare beneficiaries nationwide have good drug coverage. That is over 90 percent of all eligible beneficiaries. The Medicare prescription drug coverage is a big win for our seniors. ____________________
