Our Declaration of Independence states that everyone is endowed by our creator with an unalienable right to life. Recognition of God-given rights is part of who we are. Indeed, who could forget President Kennedy's words more than 50 years ago when he said: Our rights do not come from the generosity of the State but from the hand of God. This legislation expands protections for the right to life. It recognizes that a class of children, unborn babies older than 20 weeks who feel the pain of abortion, should be protected. We must stand in solidarity with these vulnerable children and affirm: we will protect you. I urge my colleagues to support H.R. 36.
