I want to take this time to speak with my colleagues about the items in the Contract with America and other items that have received legislative approval in this House for which I think there can be bipartisan pride. Many items have come forward to this House and have received almost unanimous Republican support and overwhelming support from the Democratic side of the aisle as well. I think they are worth repeating tonight so that people could put a perspective in this House where we have gone and how far we need to go. Mr. Speaker, the first item I want to mention would be that we have passed the congressional accountability law. That is a law introduced by Congressman Chris Shays to make sure that the laws that we in fact have passed that affect everyone else, I am speaking of civil rights laws, the Fair Labor Standards law, OSHA, prior Congresses, bills were passed and Congress, congressional employees were in fact exempt from the benefits of those laws.
