What a stupid thing to say. Republicans on this side of the aisle have worked so hard for so many years to improve Medicare; and the record is replete with the work that the gentlewoman from Connecticut (Mrs. Johnson) has done, that I have done, that many Members on this side of the aisle have done with Members on the other side of the aisle. It is an insult to the intelligence of this body and it is an insult to the intelligence of the senior citizens of this country for any Member of Congress to stand before this body and make a statement that would suggest that any one of us, who work so hard on these issues, would want to do anything except make the program as good as possible for our parents and for our constituents. It is just absurd.”
