I share that same passion here and hope to discuss and explore ways to couple services with employment and training to ensure our work-capable SNAP recipients move to a sustainable point of self-reliance.

This program touches more than 42 million Americans each month--it is the largest domestic hunger safety net program in the country.

We need to get the policy right.

I happen to believe the United States has been the most effective force for good of putting food in the bellies of hungry people overseas.

This hearing's purpose is to discuss technology and modernization of SNAP.

Many people call SNAP a safety net, but for me it was like a trampoline--bouncing my family back into work and a brighter future.

Obviously there are so many different approaches to make sure that we maintain dairy security, which is good for Americans, and nutritious; but, obviously, making sure we are taking care of our farm families, who are working so hard.

In sum, we make those changes, and we will have a much more accurate index, going forward.

Your leadership, with the language to change the provisions in the child nutrition bill on school milk have been very, very important.

I could drink to that, as long as it is a good glass of cold milk.

I want to thank you both for being here today and testifying before the Committee.

It seems like a model we should continue to strengthen.

First, nutrition matters in so many different ways; and second, it is farmers' feed.

This is such a great topic, obviously one that I am passionate about.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Thank you, members of the panel, for everything that you do, supporting the nutritional needs of American families.

SNAP-Ed is a great way to get at both this problem of improving health in urban and rural communities.

Congratulations on The Food Trust's 25th anniversary. We appreciate all that, sir, your organization does to improve access for those in need to affordable and nutritious food.
