The Congress of the United States, in a bipartisan vote, passed the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. It was signed into law by President Bush. It just suggests that, in Federal procurement, when we're seeking energy, that Departments should use energy-efficient sources so that we don't rely on unnecessary Middle East supplies for oil. This removes this requirement, and so I would hope that we would vote against it. This has been a part of the law for a number of years now, and it has helped save taxpayers money. So I would ask for a ``no'' vote on the amendment.
