I just want to note that, and I am very grateful that Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 have laid the groundwork to create campuses that are more reflective of our society.

I find that personally offensive as a Member of Congress, as someone who cares deeply about every student, to suggest that I might have questions about charter schools because of money.

Poorly regulated charter schools often have poor academic outcomes.

Every student deserves a high-quality education that will prepare them for success.

We do not want to just leave everybody else behind.

We care about every student and want every student to have a good education.

When we invest in education, we are investing in our future.

Charter schools are not subject to the same level of oversight and accountability as traditional public schools.

Not all charter schools provide students with a quality education.

Children, regardless of where they live or how involved their parents are, deserve access to high-quality public education.

Calling for unchecked expanded access to charter schools that lack meaningful accountability, while continuing to underfund our already overwhelmed traditional public education system is not in the best interest of students.

We must not ignore the growing number of charter schools that are operated by for-profit corporations.

This is a consumer protection issue, and I am a bit baffled by the argument that I heard on the other side of the aisle that this going to hurt individuals and working families. This is designed to help them.
