I also want to note that the current Healthcare legislation proposes to slash Medicaid and that jeopardizes services for children, including children with disabilities both in early childhood and in school settings.

I was so troubled to see that this administration is proposing cutting hundreds of millions of dollars for early childhood programs including Childcare Develop Block Grants, Head Start, Preschool Development Grants.

Congress really needs to think holistically and long-term about supporting the sciences.

We need to have U.S. leadership here and maintain that leadership, and I'm, again, very, very concerned.

I want to start by aligning myself with Dr. Foster's comments about education and the message that these budgets cuts send.

Your work is to supplement or to augment, not to replace, the work of NOAA.

This is an issue that affects people across the country.

I want to note that there's a lot of questions being asked today about NOAA.

I look forward to the discussion with our witnesses today about the exciting technologies that they are working on.

We need to have discussions about the state of science at NOAA and the EPA and its leadership.

Federal investment in policies can incentivize and drive the development of new, innovative technologies.

I was a proud cosponsor of that act and worked on it for actually several years.

I align myself with Mr. Takano's concerns about the possibility of eliminating the registration process for apprenticeships.

I oppose the budget cuts--well, actually the budget that seeks to completely eliminate this program.

These cuts will have devastating consequences across the United States.

I fear that the Trump Administration's actions to date and planned policies will lead to some public-health tragedies in individuals states and across the nation.

The end result will be less federal oversight, fewer scientific studies on environmental hazards, and more damage to the environment and public health.

I am certainly glad to hear all of you echo that investment decisions should be made in the best interest of the consumer.

Everybody from the industry agreed there should be a fiduciary standard, in this room.

I really see that as a role for Congress, something we can be doing to help those families who are facing retirement without that security.
