someone recently asked me what I revere most about Congress. As I thought about this I realized that this was not such a strange question. There must be something about this institution that I love or I would not be here. And then I realized that what I revere is the people and the principles behind Congress. I revere the principle of public service that must motivate anyone who has the nerve to stand before the people and ask for their permission to serve in their government. The late Speaker Tip O'Neill said it best, when asked what motivated him to get into politics, he said that it was not because it made a nice career or because it was a prestigious career, it was because he wanted to serve people. That is why I revere this institution, because it is filled with honest, hard-working people who are willing to dedicate their lives to serving others. Let us not forget that in these coming days.
