It should be noted that the spacesuits are in essence little spaceships. Each one of them is designed specifically not just for the astronaut, but also for the mission. The challenge is, we only have a certain number of spacesuits.
If NASA is not currently capable of landing American astronauts on the Moon in 5 years, we need to change the organization, not the mission.
I really believe it would be in the interest of success to start off with at least three different human landing systems that we could then down-select to two human landing systems.
The only rocket that is going to be available to take humans by 2024 is the SLS rocket with the Orion crew capsule.
