However, I am disturbed with the levels appropriated under title II of Public Law 480 Food for Peace Program which provides American-grown food to foreign countries to combat hunger and malnutrition. With the greatest agricultural productivity in the world, the United States is the best positioned nation to provide international food aid. However, since 1993, the quantity of U.S. food shipped to hungry people of the world has already been cut in half. As the United States has backed away from its responsibility, so have other donor nations.
