This bill aims to speed up the adoption process of children in foster homes. In my own State of Ohio, there are 17,000 children in foster care. Of these, nearly 1,800 are awaiting adoption. This bill is intended to help these children and others like them all across the country find permanent homes more quickly. The bill also gives States greater flexibility to separate children from their families when their parents are clearly abusive. And in my own community of Dayton, OH, we have witnessed tragic consequences of requiring family unification even when it obviously was not in the best interest of the child.
