Marcy Carolyn Kaptur is a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives, representing Ohio's 9th congressional district since 1983. She is the longest-serving woman in the history of Congress. Kaptur has focused on various issues throughout her tenure, including healthcare, economic development, and veterans' affairs. What was wrong? Why were they so wrong? The reason they were so wrong is because they were then, and we still today--our policymakers today, still are operating on the basis of false premises.
To this day, this government has not been serious about market access in any of those Asian Tigers.
If we used Japan as a model of where we've not been able to gain access, what makes us think that our structures are effective relative to what will happen with China, or Korea?
I expect this Commission to take the issue of China's treatment of the U.S. auto industry seriously.
